Road to uKhalamba-Drakensberg Park 20151026

We woke up with a beautiful sunrise at Garden Court South Beach in Durban.  Our itinerary for the day is to visit uKhalamba-Drakensberg Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with ancient wall art.

We saw some big rocks on the road just before this intersection.  As we turned right towards Giants Castle, trouble began.

As our bus stopped on top of the hill, we saw villagers blocking the road ahead, and a SUV with white folks turning around.  The folks in the SUV told us that the villagers are not letting anyone through.
Our busses quickly backed up and started assessing the situation.  John, our bus driver, parked behind the hill, and walked to talk to Patrick, the bus driver on top of the hill.

"What's going on?" asked John

The villagers are charging!  John is running back to the bus!

Here they come!

They looked like a few kids scouting the situation.  We waited here for almost an hour for police to arrive and escort us through.  While we were waiting, there were a few cars and pickup trucks, mostly local people, who were trying to pass but got turned back too.  The police never came, and our tour guides decided quickly to change our travel plans.
